Buying Back and Paying Forward

Again this year, Sayville Middle School Health Teacher Jodi Maurici encouraged the Middle School students to put their leftover Halloween candy to good use. Coordinating their efforts with Blue Star Moms, an organization of mothers of our military, the students collected 80 pounds of candy along with a plethora of items from the Blue Star Mom’s list, such as toiletries, socks, games, protein snacks, and gum. “It was a win-win-win situation,” Maurici said.  “The students donated their candy which was a choice for health, the soldiers will get much needed and deserved treats, and local dentist, Patrick Nett, once again donated $1.00 per pound of candy.”  And it was all accomplished just in time for the holidays!
