Sayville High School Senior Matthew Tomko has been named a National Merit Semifinalist

Sayville Senior Matthew Tomko has been named a Semifinalist by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) and now qualifies for the 62nd annual National Merit Scholarship Program competition. To have qualified as a Semifinalist, Matthew Tomko had to maintain an outstanding academic record throughout his high school career, had to be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, had to write an essay, and had to have earned SAT® scores that confirmed his earlier performance on the qualifying test.

Matthew Tomko is among the approximately 16,000 academically talented seniors identified  who, as a Semifinalist, has an opportunity to continue in the competition for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million. This level of the competition will be announced in the spring.
