A Visit to Almost, Main

There was nothing “almost” about the Sayville Player’s fall production Almost, Maine by award-winning actor and playwright John Cariani. It was everything an audience would want in a romantic comedy: endearing, heartfelt, silly, sad, and moving.

Almost, Maine presented nine, loosely related one-acts  with the unifying theme—love—located in Almost, Maine, a fictional inland community in our northeasternmost state.

Both talented casts of the Sayville Players brought life to the quirky characters of Almost, Maine. Here we meet: the boy and girl trying to make a good first impression in the Prologue, Interlogue,  Epilogue; the couples moving past love’s pitfalls in Her Heart, Sad and Glad, and Getting it Back;  the unhappy duos in Where it Went when the other shoe drops in a marriage breakup or in Story of Hope about missed opportunities; and the joyful pair in Seeing the Thing—yes, call it love—for the first time. Here we encounter lighthearted laughs and pangs of regrets and thanks to the tour guides among the Sayville Players, the trip was absolutely memorable.

Kudos to the actors in both casts (see below) for their convincing portrayals and excellent work as well as to Mr. Doug Shaw in his new role as Drama Advisor, for continuing the wonderful Fall Play tradition established by the recently retired Steve Hailey.
