AP Art Students in the Catbird Seat*
When Debi Wickliffe, owner of The Catbird Seat Art Gallery and Vintage Shop on Main Street in Sayville, offered a space to display student artwork in her shop/gallery, the Sayville Art Department was thrilled. Art Department Chairperson Deb Urso and AP Art teacher Evan Hammer saw this exciting opportunity as a "Real World" project with the AP art class. They challenged the AP students to produce the entire show. This meant electing Curators, Jurors, Media Specialist, exhibit specialists, etc., from their class peers.
By opening day at Catbird Seat, the show, entitled Inner Beauty, had been curated and installed entirely by the AP Art students. “They pulled it off,” Urso said, “and the works looked fabulous! Hammer and I are so proud of our students. This was not an easy task; they met their deadline and far surpassed our expectations.”
After the judging was made by vote at the Catbird Seat exhibit, student Noelle Dufrenoy won Best in Show for her work entitled Breathe.
Congratulations to Noelle and all the students who worked to so hard to produce this exhibit! Shoppers and patrons of the arts are welcome to browse but hurry over; the Sayville student art show runs until November 8th.
