Class of 1977 Donates

The Class of 1977—the largest graduating class in Sayville with over 440 students—recently celebrated its fortieth reunion in early August. As part of their planned events, the alumni were given a tour of the high school.

“On Friday the 4th,” said Janet Donadio Cozza, retired Sayville teacher and one of the Reunion Committee members, “High School English teacher Doug Shaw toured with about fifteen of us through our alma mater.” While the Class of 77 strolled down memory lane, Mr. Shaw mentioned that the Friends of Sayville Educational Foundation funded extracurricular arts and academic enhancements programs for all grade levels.  Through the generous donations made by current staff, retirees, and alumni,  students at both the primary and secondary levels benefit from such programs as Homework Helper, Jazz Day, School  Store, Science Symposium, Coding workshops, Robotics Club, and Geographic  Information Systems .

Impressed by the work of the Friends of Sayville Educational Foundation, the Reunion Committee members Patrick Donnelly, Kim Schaum Cerillo, Vivian Incorvaia, and Janet Donadio Cozza were unanimous about where to donate the extra funds they had collected due to a last-minute surge of attendees for the Saturday night reunion dinner.

 On behalf of the Class of 1977 and the Reunion Committee, Vivian Incorvaia and Janet Donadio Cozza invited Mr. Doug Shaw to witness as they presented Sayville High School Principal Ron Hoffer with a generous check of $1457.77 (cents equals to Class year) for the Sayville Educational Foundation’s worthwhile programs.
