Sayville Saying Farewell to an Old Friend

SAYVILLE STUDENTS SAYING FAREWELL TO AN OLD FRIEND

Sayville Students Saying Farewell to Police Office Joel

A familiar face is retiring from foot patrol in Sayville. After thirty-eight years as a Suffolk County Police Officer and twenty-five years in Sayville, Suffolk County Police Officer Joel Reines is retiring.  For this special occasion, the Cherry Avenue elementary students and community wanted to show their appreciation.  “Everyone knows Officer Joel.  He was at Cherry Avenue a lot over his career,” said Kindergarten teacher Geraldine Batterberry.  “Cherry Avenue School created a book to honor Officer Joel.”

During a special outside ceremony on Main Street in Sayville, Officer Joel was honored by his fellow officers in dress uniform, local business owners, and community members. Also in attendance, Sayville Superintendent Dr. John Stimmel gave a proclamation honoring Officer Joel and along with Assistant Superintendent John Belmonte shook hands with the retiring officer and thanked him for his years of caring concern for Sayville students.
