Walt Whitman Poetry Winners
Students from Ms. Tisha Werner’s Freshmen Regents classes completed a unit of study on American poet, Walt Whitman. Their task was to compose a poem, using the given theme of “Tribute.” After several revisions, the end project was to submit their poetry for consideration in the Walt Whitman Poetry contest in individual and class anthology categories. The results were excellent.
- Each of Werner’s three 9R classes created an anthology of poems and all three earned Category Winner for their anthologies;
- Freshman Katie Gozaloff (photo, center) won the entire individual category for grades 9 and 10 and earned Grand Champion status
- Freshmen Tabitha DeGrange and Jillian Miller (photo, l-r) were awarded Category Winner in the individual category, grades 9 and 10
- Juniors Madison Nolan and Brandon Hauk (photo, l-r) were awarded Category Winner in the individual category, grades 11 and 12
“I am so proud of them,” Ms. Werner was delighted, “ and all of their efforts throughout this project!”
