Empty Bowls in 2018

At the Twelfth Annual Sayville High School Art Department Empty Bowls fundraiser, homemade soups, salads, and sweets generously supplied by Sayville faculty, students, local merchants, and families were as tasty as ever!

For the price of a $10 admission ticket/donation, diners picked a one-of-a-kind hand-crafted bowl. These dish-washer and microwave-safe ceramics were artistically designed by the students and faculty and is a lasting keepsake of the evening’s good food and great company.

The popularity of the annual event, hosted this year on November 2nd, 2018, continues to grow. Among the standard favorites--chowders, chili’s and soups--was the Golden Flashes Café’s offering  of “Italian Wedding Soup” made by the Functional Academic and Career Development students who grew and harvested tomatoes, herbs and garlic from the High School Greenhouse with their teacher Mr. Phil Anzalone used in their delicious tomato soup.

Sponsored by art department under the direction of John Verschure along with art teachers Debbie Urso, Jen Berotti, Evan Hammer, and in conjunction with the Sayville School Employees Charitable Foundation, and as part of National Hunger Awareness Month (October), this enjoyable gathering has been feeding more than just dinner guests for the past eleven years.
