On June 26, the last day of the 2018-2019 school year, Sayville’s retiring Lincoln Avenue elementary school Principal Dr. Michele LeBlanc was given a send-off to remember. “We are doing a SURPRISE graduation walk for Michele LeBlanc on her last day with us,” explained Lincoln Avenue music teacher Christine Cirillo who orchestrated the plan in conjunction with the staff and students.

And what a surprise it was.  Under the pretense of having a last meeting, Superintendent Dr. John E. Stimmel kept Dr. LeBlanc “occupied” in the Principals office to discuss last-minute “matters.” Meanwhile, the entire Lincoln Avenue community of students and staff gathered in the halls in hushed expectation.

When Superintendent Stimmel escorted Dr. LeBlanc into the halls, she was greeted with a musical fanfare, a beautiful bouquet, and a joyous reception from the cheering children and teachers lining the hallways. The Lincoln Avenue students and staff hugged her and exchanged tearful goodbyes as Dr. LeBlanc processed through the entire building.  Along the way, the “graduating” Principal was gifted with a Sayville graduation cap and gown, handed her diploma, and showered with lots and lots of love.

An educator for approximately thirty-five years, Michele LeBlanc has served as a Principal at Lincoln Avenue since September 2003. While she has earned her retirement, she will be missed.
