A GOOD SHOWING AT THE 2019 SAYVILLE ALL-DISTRICT ART SHOWCASE

Impressive impressions, picturesque paintings, dynamic drawings, fabulous fashions, cool ceramics, and many crazy compositions too complicated to describe were all on display at this year’s All-District Art show on Saturday, May 11.

“We had a nice steady flow of traffic all day,” Art chairperson Deb Urso stated. “We greatly appreciate all the support we receive from our community; the STA was there handing out free refreshments, our National Art Honor Society students were busy face painting and making balloon animals for so many younger students and their families.  We had a wonderful auction thanks to local community members and local businesses donations.”

Every year, the Annual All-District Art Show offers fun for the whole family, and while the balloon, raffles, and snacks engage the guests, the main attractions—the student artwork from every grade, representing a variety of mediums—stimulate the mind, eye, and heart. Once again the remarkable talent in the 2019 Senior Showcase was on exhibit and later in the day, the 2019 Awards and scholarship winners at the secondary level were announced: (see list below).

Sayville’s art festival is only possible thanks to the Art Department faculty and volunteers who marshal extraordinary dedication and muscle-power to put up the annual show. But there is more to the show than meets the eye.  “I was very proud to walk the show,” Urso said, “and know I was a part of something wonderful. Our staff has helped guide these students on their artistic journeys—each being unique and amazing.  I tear up every year when I see how far they have come.  Many students had a piece of work on display from when they were in elementary school.  It was inspiring for all the younger artists who observed the show.  I am so proud of them and their accomplishments.”

As an example of student success, Urso added, “Eight out of ten Seniors in my Fashion class will be pursuing some area of fashion in the fall—two of them are choosing a different career path. Every fashion/makeup/design program our students strived for and applied to (FIT, Marist, Winthrop, James Madison, Montclair State, and MUD) they were accepted.  It took hard work and long hours of developing a portfolio of work that was evident that afternoon.  I’m so proud!”

Those who attended this year’s showcase saw with their own eyes the many successes nurtured by the Art Program in Sayville School District
