The Class of 2019 Participates in Annual Nostalgic Visit to Elementary Schools

Bedecked in their caps and gowns the soon-to-be-Sayville-High-School-graduates boarded school buses from the high school and were transported back in time to their elementary schools.

The Senior Inspiration Walk--launched last year with the Class of 2018--is a ‘feel-good’ culminating activity that offers both students and teachers the chance to “thank, reflect, reminisce, and inspire.”

At each of the schools there was a grand reception welcoming those members from the Class of 2019 who moved up in 2012. To the music of Pomp and Circumstance they marched down the halls, literally following in the footsteps of last year’s class, where their former teachers, all the current students, and many of the staff greeted them with heartfelt cheers and applause. Everyone was delighted to see copies of their fifth-grade yearbook photos which had been made available--either on display in the lobby, attached to lanyards, or printed for taking home as souvenirs. As they mingled with their former grade-school teachers in the classrooms, the Sayville Seniors were invited to share stories and memories with the current students who watched in rapt awe suddenly aware they were glimpsing their own futures in the graduating Class of 2019.

Again this year, the Inspiration Walk achieved its purpose. Not only did it make the outgoing Sayville students reconnect with their roots, it inspired the younger students with insights about their own goals not so far away.

It was noted by the Central Office and High School Administrators and the faculty who accompanied the Class of 2019,  that many of the Seniors returned to the high school campus, singing their old elementary school song or chatting, laughing, and generally in high spirits from their excursion down memory lane.
