Sunrise Drive Showcases Students' Works During An Evening at Sunrise

The Science Fair and PARP-Sponsored Author Event Drew Crowds.

On a Wednesday in February, Sunrise Drive families came in droves to the elementary school to celebrate a variety of student achievements at the annual "An Evening at Sunrise" event.

First, there was the Sunrise Drive Science-Technology Fair. While the Science Expo was open to students in grades kindergarten through third, students in fourth and fifth grades were required to participate in the education mandate that teaches them how to present their ideas in a visual display. The creativity and curiosity of the students who researched these Sunrise Drive science projects such as, See the Sea Salt, The Naked Egg, Battle of the Detergents, Do Cats Have a Dominant Paw?  to name just a few, were wonderful. Even Dr. Know-it-all (who bore a striking resemblance to Principal Dr. James Foy) was scratching his head in amazement.

Next, there was the PTA-sponsored PARP (Parents As Reading Partners) activity in which twenty-four invited members of the Long Island Children's Writers & Illustrators society were available to meet and greet the students and their families and share their published works. 

While Sunrise Drive's librarian, Kelly Ramos invited students and families to be creative with a Makerspace activity in the library, the halls were adorned with creative student artwork, Writer's Workshop published works, and pictures of projects the students completed throughout the year.

“It was another great night dedicated to the celebration of the students of Sunrise Drive,” Dr. Know-it-all—correction—Dr. Foy declared with enthusiasm.
