October - Board of Education Appreciation Month

While the Governor of New York issued a proclamation acknowledging the service of school boards throughout the State, students throughout Sayville School District expressed their thanks to the seven Sayville Board of Education members on a more personal level. They composed letters and notes or drew pictures that expressed their appreciation and gratitude. These were presented to the BOE members at the October 10th BOE Business Meeting.  In addition to the copious thank-you notes, each Board member received a box of chocolates.

Superintendent Dr. Stimmel began the BOE meeting by recognizing the civic-minded volunteers and elected officials who work tirelessly with Sayville Administrators, faculty, staff, and parents to ensure that each and every child in the District will benefit from our excellent educational programs. He further complimented the artwork and homemade cards that the students made for Board of Education Recognition week and gave a special thanks to the Art Department and its Chairperson Ms. Urso for all the artwork. Dr. Stimmel commended our elected board members, remarking that they are very dedicated and that they do this for their love of the students and the community. He also pointed to a newly framed picture on the wall in the Board Room, a picture of a program with a former Board of Education member, Mr. Dow Clock. Mr. Clock was a Board of Education member for nearly 40 years from 1891-1930 and served as Board President from 1895-1930. Dr. Stimmel said that this shows that caring about the community is nothing new for the Board of Education members in Sayville.

Sayville School District is fortunate to have such a cooperative and child-oriented board. The entire Sayville School District and community join in expressing thanks to: President Keith Kolar, Vice President Carl Cangelosi, and BOE Trustees: Dr. James Bertsch, Jr., Thomas Cooley, Norm deVenau, Maureen Dolan, and John Verdone.
