EMPTY BOWLS 2019
A SOUPer Time at Empty Bowls 2019
Empty Bowls is an international project, sponsored by artists and art organizations, to fight world hunger. For the price of an admission ticket/donation, guests can pick a one-of-a-kind hand-crafted bowl and dine on assorted soups and stews.
The Empty Bowls tradition had been going strong in Sayville for thirteen years! This year, a lucky number of guests enjoyed the fundraising event for a mere $10 donation. Picking one of the colorful dish-washer and microwave-safe ceramics bowls, artistically designed by the students, was just the beginning of the evening fun. Along with the standard favorites—chowders, chili’s and soups were donated by faculty, staff, students/parents, and Crickets donated the salad and bread—there was time to enjoy the great company of students, faculty, friends, and family who attended.
This popular fundraiser, held on November 1, 2019 for Sayville's Chestene M. Coverdale Food Pantry, is sponsored by the Art Club with advisors Mr. Evan Hammer and John Verschure. Thanks to assistance of art teachers Debbie Urso and Jen Berotti, and fifty student volunteers, this enjoyable gathering continued to help feed more than just dinner guests; donations totaled $750.
