The scholarship is established for News12 Long Island cameraman and NYPD officer Glen Pettit to remember his legacy. Pettit served as a News12 photojournalist, volunteer firefighter with Ronkonkoma's Lakeland Fire Department and officer in the NYPD's video unit. At the World Trade Center on 9/11, Pettit was filming the towers while also helping fellow photographers and office workers get out of the buildings.
