The Suffolk County School Superintendents Association Valedictorian Luncheon–a Virtual Experience

June 3, 2021

Twenty-seven years ago, the Suffolk County School Superintendents Association began holding their Valedictorian Luncheons to honor the highest-achieving high school seniors within Suffolk County. Last year, the in-person annual luncheon had been canceled due to COVID-19, although the Class of 2020 received acknowledgements from the SCSSA and a copy of the printed program and yearbook.

When preplanning this year’s annual event, strict health guidelines still prevented convening a large assembly, but this did not stop the SCSSA from celebrating the Suffolk County Valedictorians with a virtual ceremony.

On June 3rd,  Sayville Class of 2021 Christina Guiffre was invited, along with her parents and select High School faculty, by Sayville Superintendent Dr. John Stimmel (her former Cherry Avenue Principal) to attend a luncheon at the Sayville School District Administration building. During this small gathering, the SCSSA live-streamed the Annual Valedictorian celebration. in addition,  Dr. Stimmel presented Christina with a copy of the printed program and the SCSSA yearbook.

Congratulations go to Christina for her stellar academic achievements, as well as for her active participation in numerous clubs and community-service organizations. “Christina’s academic drive and success,” stated her AP Seminar and English teacher Jennifer Sohl, “is second to her humility.” These sentiments regarding her intelligence, motivation, and humble character are echoed by the entire Sayville faculty and her fellow students.  Sayville is truly honored to have Christina Guiffre represent the District as Sayville's Class of 2021 Valedictorian at the SCSSA  Luncheon.
