The Mechanical Animals, Sayville’s Robotics Team, “won the Quality Award at the First Robotics Competition SBPLI Regional #1 held on March 22nd and March 23rd at Hofstra University,” announced Robotics Advisor Bryan Coon. “The name of this year’s FRC Competition was Rapid React and the focus was on scoring points by lifting cargo balls (9 ½” in diameter) and then depositing the cargo balls into an upper or lower hubs to score points. Additional points could be earned by traversing rungs of prepositioned bars set to four different heights off the competition floor.
The criteria for the Quality Award, which “celebrates machine robustness in concept and fabrication,” Mr. Coon explained, “are primarily based on robot construction and design. Robots are judged for their robustness throughout the entire competition and the robot design must demonstrate quality workmanship, attachment system, and wiring methods. The design and construction of the robot can withstand the rigors of competition – maintaining functionality, including the use of redundant components.
“Sayville’s Mechanical Animals,” Mr. Coon continued with pride, “demonstrated a strong robust design with excellent workmanship and wiring. The robot stood tall with a quality build that consistently scored goals during every one of the 10 matches in which the team competed during the two days of the robotics competition."
At the exciting conclusion of the 2022 Rapid React Competition, Sayville’s Robotics 2022 Mechanical Animals Team was named winners of the Quality Award. Kudos to the entire team for this remarkable accomplishment.
