A Band Tradition Begins
“A new Sayville tradition began at the October 29th, Friday evening Sayville Varsity Football game,” Elementary Band teacher Diane Hoffman shared, “when the Sayville Music Department held Elementary-Middle School Band Day.”
The Elementary and Middle School students who were invited to play with the High School students were given a double thrill. Not only were they showcasing their developing musical skills but they were also cheering on the Sayville Golden Flashes to yet another exciting victory.
"Band Day," Mrs. Hoffman added, “has been High School Band Director Kerri Van Boxel's vision for a few years now, and to see it come to successful fruition was extremely rewarding for all involved! We hope to continue this fun and exciting tradition for many years to come.”
Mrs. Hoffman gave special kudos to one of her dedicated Sunrise Drive Band students, Cooper Gavin, who plays the trumpet. “This precious young man broke his ankle early Friday afternoon,” she said. “He left school early and went to the doctor. After the doctor diagnosed him with a broken ankle he came back to Sunrise Drive for Trunk or Treat and then came to play at the football game!”
Congratulations, Cooper, for your outstanding commitment and congratulations to all the young band members who launched this new tradition in Sayville School District!
