A New FBLA Chapter for Sayville High School is Ready to Tackle Competitions

 January 5, 2022

“Sayville High School has officially launched a Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Chapter!” announced FBLA Advisor Hannah Michaelson. “We had just started in November and have already grown to twenty-three official student members.”

With January 6, 2022 kicking off the Spring District Meeting, the students have begun to compete in a number of in-person competitions at Longwood High School. “We have two Sayville High School seniors, Tom Cea Jr. and Jack Corcoran, competing in two in-person events,” Ms. Michaelson stated. “Starting Friday, January 7th through Sunday, January 10th, we have six Sayville High School students competing in virtual competitions from home.”

Ms. Michaelson was elated with the new chapter’s progress. “We got a late start to the membership year, but this group of highly motivated students are ready to tackle these competitions and put Sayville on the map! The six students competing virtually are Loghan McNamara, Holly Doxey, Connor Dubay, Brian Meindl, Gavin Venezia, and Reese Skelly.”

While the concept for Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) goes back to late 1930s, its enduring commitment to help high school students prepare for careers in business through academic competitions, leadership development, and educational programs continues to excite our 21st century students. “I really believe,” Ms. Michaelson said, “that having an FBLA chapter will promote school/community loyalty, create more interest in business, help students define personal and professional goals, and help students transition from high school to work/higher education. With that being said, I want to sincerely thank the Friends of Sayville Educational Foundation for allowing us the opportunity to give our students this unique and beneficial experience.”

Although newly formed, the Sayville FBLA Chapter has ambitions goals. Its members aim is to compete at the state level in a variety of competitions in the 2021-2022 State Leadership Conference at Rochester Riverside Convention Center, scheduled for April 27th-29th.
