Cherry Avenue Student Council Makes Holidays Merry and Bright for Local Families

Cherry Avenue Student Council Advisor Liz Denton recently shared the heartwarming news about food and clothing drives which brightened the holidays for local families

“The Cherry Ave Fifth Grade Student Council,” she reported, “through the donations of our generous Cherry Avenue Community, collected well over 650 Thanksgiving Food Drive items, as well as multiple grocery store gift cards! These donations ensured a wonderful Thanksgiving day, consisting of breakfast, lunch, a full Thanksgiving dinner, beverages, desserts, plates, napkins, aluminum foil and roasting pans, for Cherry’s local families.”

Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of the Cherry Avenue family, “remaining items.” Mrs. Denton continued, “were used to create Christmas Dinner Boxes, as well as Winter Breakfast Boxes. In addition to these boxes, the Cherry Avenue Student Council launched its first ever “Good Nights for Good Days” pajama and book drive in conjunction with the Pajama Program & Scholastic Books. Through the continued generosity of the Cherry Avenue community, the drive was a huge success. The Cherry Avenue Student Council was able to donate ninety-three pairs of new pajamas to a local women and children’s shelter. Each pair of pajamas was matched with a new book from Scholastic Books. “

Grateful for the outpouring of books, pajamas, and food, Mrs. Denton added, “The Cherry Ave Student Council would like to thank our Cherry Avenue Community for their support and generous donations. Without the support of our community, these donations would not be possible. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to our Cherry Avenue PTA for their continued support and promotion of our initiatives.”
