Cherry Avenue Held a Veterans Day Drive to Collect Essential Items.

Back in November, as part of Cherry Avenue’s annual Veterans Day celebration and in collaboration with At Your Service (AYS) Staffing and The Society for Hospitality and Food Service Management (SHFM), the school community held a collection. The idea was to gather essential items to send to servicemen and woman overseas—names and addresses provided by SHFM—as well as to assist veterans in the VA Home. The Cherry Avenue response was overwhelming.
Recently, PTA Co-Vice President Jeanine Cosgrove-Albert shared the “awesome impact” from the Cherry Avenue Veterans Day collection, because “so many positive things came out from it.”
“From your generous donations,” Jeanine said, “we were able to do the following:
🍒10 boxes sent overseas to service people in the Air Force and Army packed with toiletries, socks, snacks, games/cards, gum, candy!
🍒6 huge donation bags of shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, cleansing wipes, body wash, hand sanitizer, tooth paste, toothbrushes and dental floss brought to the VA Hospital in Northport!
🍒 5 huge donation bags of shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, cleansing wipes, body wash, hand sanitizer, tooth paste, toothbrushes, snacks/candy and dental floss brought to the VA Home in Yapank!
🍒3 huge donation bags of food/snacks, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, cleansing wipes, body wash, tooth paste, toothbrushes and dental floss brought to the Sayville Pantry!
🍒I still have enough items for another 2-3 overseas boxes, just waiting on more names of service people from my organization at The Society for Hospitality and Foodservice Management, which should be coming soon!
🍒Thank you again to everyone who participated and helped with this donation/collection, especially Mrs. Teufel, Mrs. Moran, the security and janitorial staff at Cherry-you ALL really affected so many lives!
The Veterans Day Collection was one way the Cherry Avenue community could say thanks to all the service men and women—past and present—who have provided us with the “veil of freedom” we enjoy.
