Showing Their Independence!

Sunrise Drive Physical Education teacher Amy Chaimowitz devised an activity for January’s S.T.R.I.D.E.S. attribute. “This month we talked about Independence for S.T.R.I.D.E.S.,” Mrs. Chaimowitz explained. To demonstrate how they can show independence, the students were asked to take the initiative with chores or activities at home and submit photos of themselves being “independent.”

Throughout the month of January, Mrs. Chaimowitz posted the students' photos to “Indy,” Sunrise Drive’s independent caterpillar on display in the hallway. The activity met with tremendous success.  “Indy grew as they grew,” Mrs. Chaimowitz said. “She started out really small.” With each contribution, Indy stretched through the hallway and eventually reached the specific bulletin board where Indy became a butterfly. “We got ninety-four pictures. It turned out so super cute!”  Mrs. Chaimowitz was so pleased to see Indy’s progress throughout the month and was most especially proud of her students’ showing their independence.
