Talent Shines at Recent Middle School- High School Talent Show
At The "First Annual" Talent Show
May 25, 2022
The running joke of the night heralded the evening activity as “the First Annual Talent Show.” However, in the past, Sayville School students have enjoyed performing in various talent shows sponsored by school clubs and school-related organizations, but this year, the Talent Show had returned with a new look and feel. The second part of the joke—dealing with the word “annual”—was presumptive until there would be a second talent show next year. Nevertheless, it was in the spirit of great fun that the Talent show opened.
“On Wednesday May 25th,” Middle School Assistant Principal Brian Decker reported, “students from both the high school and middle school participated in a talent show. We had over twenty participants who sang, danced, performed magic, standup comedy, and even a puppet show. The talent was amazing. We had hundreds of high school and middle school students attend and everyone had a great night.”
Mr. Decker acknowledged the talent within the faculty who acted as masters of ceremonies, stage managers and adjudicators. “Our cohosts, Mr. DeCicco and Mrs. Chirichella, stole the show. They were funny, talented, had the audience participating all night, and had some great laughs. Our guest judges included, Mr. Hoffer, Mr. Giambrone, Ms. Lambiase, Ms. Lawrence, and Ms. VanBoxel.”
Admitting that the hardest part was deciding who had the winning talent that evening, Mr. Decker said, “Judging these performances was no easy task, but it did produce several winners. The overall $500.00 prize winner went to sophomore Brandon Mazzullo and the $250.00 runner up from the high school went to the band the Kroo, (members included Ben Verdone, Porter Fox, Aidan Keane, Camryn Quinlan, Dan Blanco, Chris Mulligan, Charlie Duplessis) while the $250.00 middle school runner up was Samara and Eliana Lee.”
Some of the proceeds from the Middle School-High School Talent Show were distributed to the student governments for both buildings as well as food donations to the Sayville Food Pantry. “We would also like to make a special shout out to the Middle School Site-Based Team,” Mr. Decker said, “especially Mr. and Mrs. Fontanetta, and Ms. Gutheil, the MS/HS PTA, all of the high school club Presidents and Ms. VanDorn, Mr. Diekmann, and the HS Funk Band, and Mr. Kramer, Ms. Wrede and their stage crew, and everyone that volunteered to help us with this awesome evening of talent."
After viewing the extraordinary showcase that night, Mr. Decker expressed sentiments shared by all. “We hope this becomes a tradition [giving truth to the idea of Annual] and look forward to a show next year.”
