Lincoln Avenue Elementary School Community Treated to a Thrilling Surprise
Lincoln Avenue celebrated Halloween in style this year with not one, but two costume parades on Friday October 29th. The first parade featured 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classes showing off their costumes. The parade ended with all of the students gathered on the blacktop in what looked like a photo opportunity for parents to get their best picture. However, the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders surprised the crowd with a Thriller flash mob. The flash mob was led by Lincoln Ave. music teacher, Christine Cirillo in the front and all of the special area teachers, Mr. Michaels, Mrs. Volpe, Coach Bolger, and Mr. Slinkosky along the back of the crowd. Even 3rd grade teacher Ms. Galvin couldn't resist and jumped in as well. Students had been preparing for this moment in music and PE for weeks and were able to pull off an amazing surprise for all!
The second parade featured Lincoln Ave. Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders. They also got the chance to show off some of their amazing costumes to everyone. As part of a long-standing Lincoln Ave. tradition, the PreK-2 students gathered in the center of the blacktop to share three favorite Halloween songs that they sang... 5 Little Pumpkins, The Haunted House, and The Witch's Brew.
“It was so much fun,” Mrs. Christine Cirillo said, “to be able to have not just our traditional Halloween parade back this year, but to be able to have our family and friends join us as well. The number of spectators that came out to see our Lincoln students were more than we have ever had before. All of the students and staff were energized for the entire day by the screaming rounds of applause they received. This was the first time in almost two years that our students have received a live round of applause, and it was huge! It brought tears to my eyes."
