On Wednesday, June 7, the 49th annual Scholastic Award Program for the Class of 2023 was held at Sayville Middle School.
Before the awards program began, the High School String Ensemble serenaded guests while members of the National Honor Society handed out bulletins and helped attendees to their seats.
High School Principal Mr. Ron Hoffer welcomed students and families to the event and led the presentation of the academic awards. The academic awards are presented for art, business and technology, science, S.W.E.E.P. (Students Working to Enhance Environmental Protection), social studies, mathematics, world languages, music, English, drama and vocational education.
Following the academic awards was the presentation of 90 community scholarships and closing out the evening was the presentation of over 40 General School Awards.
In addition to the awards, two members of the senior class, Thomas Golio and Ryan Karman, were recognized for their upcoming military service. Thomas will be attending the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and Ryan will be entering the U.S. Coast Guard.
