Happiness is the Color Mile Run/Walk -2nd Annual event

HAPPINESS IS A S.T.R.I.D.E.S. COLOR RUN /WALK
On a crisp October Saturday, when the yellow sun shared the bright blue sky with white fluffy clouds, Sayville families and community members shared a color-coordinated event on the green swards of the Middle School field.
Postponed from the previous weekend, when mild remnants of Hurricane Ian drenched the northeast, the rescheduled Second Annual S.T.R.I.D.E.S. Color Mile Run/Walk had a perfect day to kick off the first of numerous S.T.R.I.D.E.S. community activities scheduled for this year.
Exceeding last year’s numbers with well more than five hundred participants, Sayville children, teens and adults gathered at the starting line for the signal. After a brief welcome from Sayville Superintendent Marc Ferris, the happy crowds "were off" to earn their colors. It was a fun frolic around the fields through each color station for both the runner/walkers and the color-powder throwers—Middle School and High School student volunteers. At the finish line, many faces blushed with purple, yellow, blue, pink, and green wore the brightest smiles.
The Second Annual Color Mile Run/Walk achieved its goal—to bring the community together through a fun-filled event. Its enormous success was thanks to Sayville School District Student Services Director Jillian Makris and District Social Worker Jess Ciardullo who organized the event with the cooperation of many High School clubs, the Sayville Chamber and Sayville Library, local merchants, and health-service organizations. (see the full list at right).
Mrs. Makris expressed her gratitude to all who made the day special and encouraged the Sayville Community to check for more S.T.R.I.D.E.S. announcements about future events throughout the year.
