High School Junior Awarded Summer-Program Scholarship to Notre Dame
June 6, 2023
Through the tremendous generosity of Sayville residents Jamie and Brenda Atkinson, memorial scholarships have been made available annually to Sayville High School juniors who wish to attend the Summer Scholars Program at Notre Dame.
The Susan and Harold Atkinson Scholarship was created by Jamie Atkinson to honor his community-minded parents, Susan and Harold Atkinson, who were “pioneers in law enforcement and very active in the Sayville Community.”
This year’s recipient was Skyler Collins who will be focusing on the life-sciences track during her time at Notre Dame.
The Summer Scholars Program at Notre Dame is an intensive two-week course at the university’s campus in South Bend, Indiana. Students take a challenging college-level course taught by Notre Dame faculty.
The all-inclusive Susan and Harold Atkinson Scholarship awards Skyler the opportunity to participate in this highly competitive program through which she will earn one college credit. The summer program will also strengthen her candidacy when applying to competitive colleges in her senior year.
Upon completion of the Summer Scholars Program and graduating from Sayville High School, Skyler will be awarded an additional $1,000 scholarship towards the college of her choice in the name of Brenda Atkinson’s late father, Humberto Orejuela.
Congratulations to Skyler!
