Wednesday, May 31, was a beautiful day for the second annual S.T.R.I.D.E.S. Carnival held at the field at Greeley Avenue. Scores of volunteers and families gathered to celebrate a wonderful school year and the S.T.R.I.D.E.S. characteristics.

“The S.T.R.I.D.E.S. carnival was a testament to the wonderful community that we are a part of,” said Jillian Makris, the Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services. “The success of the event was the result of the efforts of many - a true team effort. And, there is nothing better than seeing our students laughing and having a great time together with their families.”

Tents representing each one of the S.T.R.I.D.E.S. characteristics of Self-Esteem, Trust, Resilience, Diversity, Empathy and Strength lined the field. Attendees had the opportunity to play carnival games, jam out to music, interact with local organizations, and even hang out with the elementary school mascots.

The event was funded by the Great South Bay Coalition and Youth Enrichment Services. Ms. Makris and the entire Sayville School District administration would like to thank all of the organizations and groups from the district and larger community that participated in the event!
