Soups and Sides for Empty Bowls 2022
November 4, 2022
Sayville’s Annual Empty Bowls* fundraiser to end world hunger has been a popular activity for approximately sixteen years. A ten-dollar admission charge gave patrons their pick of a handcrafted ceramic bowl and a pass to the all-you-can-eat buffet of fall-flavored soups, bread, salad, and desserts.
While usually a late-October event as part of National Hunger Awareness Month, this year it was held on Friday, November 4th, due to various art-department scheduling conflicts. With so much going on elsewhere within the District (sports playoffs and semifinal competitions were all on the same day), the annual event did not draw record numbers this year, but the sumptuous soups and sides, generously supplied by Sayville faculty, students, and family volunteers, was a tasty treat for all who attended.
*Empty Bowls, a grassroots movement by artists and crafts people to support food-related charitable organizations around the world, was sponsored by the Sayville Art Club under the direction of John Verschure, Debbie Urso, Jen Berotti, Evan Hammer as part of National Hunger Awareness Month.
