On Monday, June 5, thirty-two Sayville High School students were inducted into the Sayville chapter of the Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society.

The event featured an introduction from Chapter President Michael Pitre as well as Chapter Advisor Susan Hart.

Special guest and Board of Education Trustee Dr. James Bertsch gave keynote remarks to the inductees.

After the candle lighting ceremony, inductees were presented with certificates and recited the Rho Kappa Oath. Senior members of the chapter received their senior cords at the end of the event.

The Rho Kappa Honor Society is the only national organization for high school juniors and seniors that recognizes excellence in the field of Social Studies. To achieve entry into the society, students must have a 90 unweighted average in their social studies classes, fill out the application including an essay explaining the importance of history and the impact they will have as Rho Kappa members as well as include their high school transcript and recommendations from teachers.
