State-of-the-Art Artificial TURF TENNIS COURTS at the Middle School!
September 29, 2022
The gold and purple ribbons, draped between a net and perimeter fence around the Sayville Middle School tennis courts signaled the special occasion. A Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony with the Sayville Middle School Girls tennis team marked the official grand opening of the new turf tennis courts—yes, TURF—which was recently installed as an upgrade.
"The Sayville School District is the first-ever school in Suffolk County to install state-of-the-art artificial turf tennis courts at the Middle School!" Sayville Athletic Director Dr. Ryan Cox stated proudly at the September 29, 2022 Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, held before the first game.
"Very limited Long Island school districts have turf courts," added Dr. Sam Gergis, Assistant Superintendent for Business.
"Installation of the turf tennis courts," Dr. Cox explained, "is gaining steam as several Nassau County School Districts have installed them over the last five through seven years. The turf provides a surface conducive to the development of skills for our Middle School tennis athletes as well as provides a more effective approach to maintaining the courts. We are thrilled to provide this opportunity for our students and look forward to years of success!"
With a large scissor in hand, Assistant Superintendent for Business Dr. Sam Gergis and Sayville Athletic Director Dr. Ryan Cox enlisted the help of Middle School Tennis Coach Erin Rymer, Middle School Principal Dr. Joseph Castoro and the entire Middle School Girls tennis team. After they participated in the short but joyous activity, the Sayville Golden Flashes met the William Floyd Colonials for lively competition on the turf courts.
