Use of Facilities Policy

A policy established by the Board of Education regulates the use of school facilities by community organizations.

PUBLIC USE OF SCHOOL FACILITIES

In as much as the schools of the community have been built with public funds and are supported by the citizens of the community, the Board wishes to make school facilities available to community organizations consistent with the provisions of the New York State Education Law when the facilities are not being used for school programs or school functions.

No association or organization is entitled, as a matter of right, to use school facilities, but must apply by using the NEW ONLINE APPLICATION PROGRAM  and in advance for permission which shall be given at the discretion of the Superintendent of Schools.

The use of any school facility is first reserved for school activities. In addition, the use of a school gymnasium, auditorium, or other areas of the school will be denied when a dance, entertainment, or other function will interfere with the success of a scheduled school function or when the outside function is a duplication of effort in serving the needs of the youth of Sayville.

No use fee will be assessed when it is judged that the use of the building directly or indirectly benefits the children of the school district. The waiving of such building use fees will be established by the Superintendent of Schools.. For all other purposes, where admission fees are charged, reasonable fees for the use of the building will be charged by the district. In addition, whenever extra custodial help is needed by an organization, a custodial-service fee may be charged.

The Superintendent of Schools shall develop the necessary regulations and administrative procedures to implement this policy.

*NEW* REQUIRED FORM THAT MUST BE COMPLETED FOR FIELD USE REQUESTS

There is a new form that all youth groups and leagues are required to complete for each Field Use request in the Sayville Public School District.

This required form is a result of the recent legislation that became effective on May 24, 2024:

NYS S.7424/A.366A Legislation – Youth Sports AED Legislation

NYS passed the above captioned legislation in 2023, which becomes effective on May 24, 2024. This legislation requires Youth Sports Leagues to establish automated external defibrillator, or AED, implementation plans and to have at least one person trained to properly use the AED at camps, games, and practices.

Compliance for the above referenced legislation falls with the youth league and not with Sayville School District.

The NYSIR Facility Use Supplement – Youth Sports Groups – AED Supplement will need to be signed and returned as acknowledgement, prior to any field use in the district.

Organizations requesting field use will receive the AED Supplement form with each request made on ML Schedules. No field use will be approved until a signed AED Supplement Form is received in the Buildings and Grounds office. This form will be transmitted to the organization via email once a request is received.
