Statement on Legislation Removing Non-Medical Exemption from School-Vaccination Requirements
The worst outbreak of measles in more than twenty-five years has hit areas of New York primarily as a result of non-medical exemptions that caused unacceptably low rates of vaccinations. Unvaccinated children who attend school can spread the disease to other unvaccinated students, some of whom cannot receive vaccines due to medical conditions.
On June 13, 2019, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo signed legislation that no longer allows a religious exemption. See the letter below.
